Enjoy a 5-minute guided ancestral meditation that helps you connect you with all the powerful women in your family.
HOW TO DO IT:
Sit cross-legged on a bolster or stack of pillows (or a chair if that’s more comfortable), sitting tall, breathing in through the nose and out of the nose or mouth. Eyes can be closed or softly open, softly gazing at the same spot (feel free to light a candle as gaze at the soft flame as a focus point - make sure to be safe!). Palms can be folded in front of the belly, resting with no effort or one hand resting on belly and the other hand on your heart.
Now picture your mother sitting behind you in the same position, right behind your right shoulder (really see her, visualize the sparkle in her eye, her knowing smile, etc.). She raises her left hand to your right shoulder and places her right hand on her heart. Now picture your mom’s mother (your grandmother) behind her in the same position with her left hand on your mom's shoulder and her right hand on her heart. Once you can picture her, her features, how she is sitting tall, with strength and power, picture her mom sitting behind her (your great-grandmother).
Do this until you can picture a long river of women, all your maternal ancestors, lining up behind you, all channeling their wisdom, strength, power and intuition to YOU.
Then behind your left shoulder, sitting tall, strong and proud is your paternal side of women, starting with your father’s mother. Run through the same exercise, except she is placing a right hand on your shoulder and her left hand to her heart. Until you see a long line of women there too.
Each one of these women, women you may not even have a photo of, are cheering you on and passing on the wisdom of their bodies to you, to help you in your birthing journey.
So even if you feel you are alone - wherever you give birth - or however your baby comes (vaginally or C-section) these women are with you; breathe in their courage, their power, their love, their wisdom. Their blood is in your bones, your body, your heart - and you are never alone in the birthing process.
After practicing your guided meditation (whatever guided meditation that was helpful to you today) you can do an Ocean Themed Prenatal Yoga Class or do the yoga class first then the meditation - your choice.
You can come back to this meditation anytime.
TIP:
If you have had any trauma (in your life or in a past birth experience) this meditation may be very helpful to help release fear and to help you move into a space of trusting your baby, trusting the birthing process and moving from a space of flight or fright to trust and power.
